What is luxury vinyl flooring?

If you're looking for a simple solution to all of your flooring problems, choose luxury vinyl. Whether your problem is significant, like worn floors throughout a new home, or minor, such as a room with a ho-hum look, this flooring option can satisfy your needs. It's suitable for even the most active families, and it can be installed on any level of the home. Brothers Flooring, located in Spokane, Washington, and Post Falls, Idaho, offers the trendiest vinyl styles.

Image layer

Luxury vinyl plank, or LVP, and luxury vinyl tile, or LVT, are composed of four layers: backing, core, image, and wear. The transparent wear layer protects the high-tech image of wood, stone, or ceramic. Since a floor must be replaced when the image becomes worn, this surface layer determines durability. The highest quality brands have at least a 20-mil wear layer.

Core layer

The core layer makes up the majority of the plank or tile. Waterproof LVP and LVT usually have a wood-plastic composite or a stone plastic composite core. (WPC and SPC, respectively) Waterproof luxury vinyl flooring is not damaged by water, even when exposed to it for an extended amount of time. Almost indestructible SPC flooring offers maximum durability.

Installation

Most often, plank and tile edges are designed to interlock so installers can construct a floor that floats above the subfloor. Since no attachment to the subfloor is necessary, LVP and LVT can often be installed on top of an existing floor. Glue-down and loose-lay luxury vinyl are also available. Loose lay flooring butts together and uses friction to stay in place.
